News Boocock back in Second
2nd August 2008
Rounds 10 and 11, held at the high speed Thruxton circuit was the first time that local driver Elton Boocock has not been caught up in a ‘racing incident’ so far this season. The race finishes where race 1; 4th and race 2; 2nd. This has put Elton into second place in the championship by 2 points clear of Gareth Davis who took second place during last weekend’s disaster.
The 5.5 tonne race truck needed major rebuilding throughout the week and the team went into the weekend unsure of whether the repairs including a twisted axle had been successful. During the week he even had help from the team of his closest competitor Cees Zandbergen who was staying in the country between the 2 races rather than travelling back to their base in Holland.
After taking it steady during qualifying and race 1, Elton was happy to push the truck in race 2 saying “we need to replace the shock absorbers but other than that I am happy that the truck is back to its current form.
It is becoming more obvious as the season progresses that Boocock is braking later and exiting faster than his competitors. However, once on the straights, the other teams just simply have more power. The fuel pump and injectors will now be sent to Merlin Diesels (Sponsor) for testing and development. Ian Fairhurst of Merlin Diesels said simply ‘I am sure we can get some more go out of the pump’!
The next 2 rounds are both at the smaller circuits which suit the UKT Racing team Seddon Atkinson and Eltons driving style. The Next round will be at Pembrey where Boocock had a 2 second per lap advantage over his competitors. The season will end at Brands Hatch in November.
